Yes. Cracking the occasional joke is great and even necessary at times to not pull your hair out, because the things that these men say are absolutely ridiculous. I’m not a libertarian, but I agree with this completely. Attacking someone’s beliefs, in general, only makes them stronger. Being cruel makes their walls stronger and thicker; you are not going to get anywhere. Most of the time, sitting and talking to that one specific person that supports Santorum, or some other ridiculous person or idea, probably won’t convince them. It’ll convince the people around that one person, that don’t believe as strongly. That makes a difference. Much more than a joke, that I also fear is becoming stripped of it’s original context and being swung around with homophobic vibes.
